Meat Pies
The good ol meat pie my mama used to make. A simple and easy appetizer to make, requires some handy work though i have to say.
INGREDIENTS:
Flour
Salt
Butter
Water
Egg
Baking Powder
Potatoes
Spring Onions
Parprika
Peas
Carrots
INSTRUCTIONS (Dough)
1. Put all your dry ingredients into a sizeable bowl. 500g flour, a pinch of salt, 1 teaspoon of baking powder and mix them well.
2. Add your 250g butter to the flour mixture and mix well until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs and add a bit of water and continue mixing until the mixture start to look a dough.
3. Knead well until the dough becomes soft and bouncy and elastic.
Meat Pie Filling:
1. Add cooking oil to your pan. Fry your spring onions and add your mince meat until cooked to your desire. Add parprika
2. Add your small cubed chopped potatoes, carrots and peas into the pan and half a cup of water and let the mixture simmer for about 10 - 15mins or until the potatoes and carrots are soft.
Lastly take a bit of your dough, roll it out and cut it into a small triangle. Make sure its about 4 - 5mm thick. Take your beaten egg and spread at the edges of the triangle dough and add a spoonful of your meat pie filling and close it up. Take a fork and fold the ends of the pie to hold it together and repeat the same step for the rest of the pies.
Rub a bit of the egg on top of the meat pies and bake in the oven for 180 degrees for 30 - 35mins.
